“Stars” by Hum from 1995’s You’d Prefer An Astronaut
One of the best. I was 12 years old when I first heard this and it blew my mind. It was the heaviest thing I had ever heard. I feel, that to this day this songs still holds up.
“Counting Blue Cars” by Dishwalla from 1995’s Pet Your Friends.
Look at that video filter.
Self - “Cannon” from 1995’s Subliminal Plastic Motives.
Growing up, my best friend’s older brother had this album and I would listen to it whenever I went over to his house.
This band was mostly one dude. In 2000, he released an album recorded entirely with children’s instruments and toys.
“Shimmer” by Fuel from 1998’s Sunburn.
This song is great. And the video! Look how fucking cute that dog is! And c’mon, they wait until two minutes in to drop that gem of a chorus.
They definitely got more bro-ish as the years went on and also had a ton of different line-up changes. The album after Sunburn was ok but was definitely a bit too Godsmack for my tastes. I haven’t heard anything after that.
“What’s up” - 4 Non Blondes from 1992’s “Bigger, Better, Faster, More!”
The singer, Linda Perry, has gone on to produce and write songs for Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, and Pink among others.
Radiohead - “High & Dry” from 1995’s The Bends.
The scene of the 3 different generations in the bathroom is the high point of this video.
311 - “All Mixed Up” from s/t album in 1995.
My favorite is the line “Fuck the naysayers ‘cause they don’t mean a thing.”
